SARASOTA TRAFFIC BLOG: Sheriffs Run Sting Outside Courthouse And Homes Of Driver’s With Suspended Licenses

The Sarasota County Sheriff is cracking down on driver’s who are getting behind the wheel despite the fact they have a suspended license. On Thursday Sheriff’s deputies were in court monitoring DWLS cases and followed driver’s out into the courthouse parking lot. If a driver with a suspended license got behind the wheel, they got nabbed according to Todd Ruger of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune in today’s paper. Only two driver’s who were followed out of court got into a car to drive and both were arrested.

The officer’s thought they may have had a third arrest when a man with a history of DUI charges left court and headed to a liquor store but officer’s lost him when he slipped out a back door. Today the sting, called ‘Operation Gotcha’ moves to South County where half of the county’s 6,000 suspended drivers reside. This was the first sting at the Sarasota County Courthouse but Sheriff’s deputies said to expect more.
